The FSM diagram shows the belt coming from the crankshaft around the top of the water pump and over to the alternator, up to the A/C, under the idler, over to the PS pump, to the adjusting idler then back to the crank. My fixed idler pulley is set too low to allow the two parts of the belt to run under it. they will rub together at that point.

I have a 1991 Jeep Service Manual and those are the tension numbers quoted for the serpentine belt. It seems to indicate those apply to both 2.5L and 4.0L engines. My haynes manual only describes having about a 1/2" deflection on the belt. I am getting confused and annoyed with all these different belt tension check methods!
