External Wastegate Vacuum/Boost Reference Line - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards From Maximum Boost (Corkey Bell): (edited slightly for wordieness) "Essentially, three choices exist compressor outlet, plenum entering the throttle bodies and intake manifold. Each has merit and problems. Dont use that vacuum port on top of the throttle. It is not a good source because it is connected via a small capillary restriction. There is not enough flow for the wastegate and/or blow off valve. Your first mistake is using a vacuum source for the wastegate.

BASIC COMPONENTS OF YOUR COMP-GATE40 40MM EXTERNAL WASTEGATE Use the diagram to help identify the "top" and "bottom" ports, and inlet/outlet ports of your wastegate. - When pressure is applied to the "bottom" port of a wastegate, i.e. underneath the wastegate diaphragm, it acts against the wastegate spring and the wastegate valve opens. DESCRIPTION: 46MM EXTERNAL WASTEGATE Wastegate spring removal and installation 1. Remove the PW46 WASTEGATE from the inlet pipe. USE CAUTION AS THE WASTEGATE MAY STILL BE VERY HOT! 2. WARNING! THE WASTEGATE CAN TOP IS UNDER HIGH SPRING TENSION. USE SAFETY GOGGLES AND REMOVE WITH CARE. Using a 4mm hex key, remove the six hex The only vacuum line that would come off of your BOV is going to connect to your intake throttle plate. That external wg diagram from tial is a base for any basic external wastegate. I can send you specific pics if you need them just PM me
External wastegate vacuum diagram. As I have the vacuum lines now, the turbo boost goes into 2, and the top port of the wastegate is connected to 1. Like I said, it won't make less than 22-25 lbs unless I modulate the pedal. The wastegate spring is 17 psi and will open normally with only the bottom port connected and no boost controller connected. Every diagram Ive found, included a boost controller. I wont be running any boost control, right now. I know the line for the bottom of the wastegate (Tial), runs to the fitting on the bottom of the turbo. So, does the line from the top port on the wg, just go to the IM or any vacuum source? Also, I have the fittings facing toward the engine block. How Does An External Wastegate Work? Boost pressure controls a pressure actuator and determines if the wastegate is open or shut. The wastegate is shut in a rest position. Furthermore, force is applied to the actuator when boost pressure is built. When the boost pressure exceeds the spring value. The actuator progressively opens the wastegate. Why would u want an external wastegate....well There's a reason that any turbocharged race car uses external gates, because they are far superior to an internal gate, flow, torque and power are increased due to less turbulation around the turbine wheel exit and wastegate valve, and as for screamer pipes being useless....u should do ur homework before giving advce on something u obviously knw ...
wastegate. Dual port wastegates are easier to tune because of reasonable linearity between control pressure and boost pressure, have better control authority than the single port style (especially if used with an external pressure source), have more options for the control method, and have more options in the mechanical control External Wastegate Plumbing Schematic. Last question, the vacuum line that was on the wastegate I just put on the EWG? The bottom port of the wastegate is supposed to be hooked directly to manifold vacuum/pressure. The top port is supposed to be connected to the output of the Profec-B. ... so does anyone have a diagram on how to hook up an external wastegate to a boost controller and boost gauge when the turbo has no vaccum on it ... Joined Nov 19, 1999 ... KBlake. Run a short vacuum line from the hose barb on the compressor to the plastic Tee we included in the kit. Run a line from one side of the tee to the side port on the wastegate. Run a line from the other side of the Tee to the "In" barb on the solenoid pack. Run a line from the "Out" barb on the solenoid pack to the top port on the wastegate.
Boost controller vacuum - posted in DIY, Maintenance, Technical Support: Anyone have a picture of their vacuum lines coming from controller? I have my top ports on wastgates coming to a T -fitting on back of intake but are just vented to the atmosphere. Does that sound correct. Other port on wastegates are connected to a T fitting that goes to my controller. 4,605 Posts. #60 · Feb 13, 2010. It also has a 1:1 fuel pressure regulator which if you don't have then just leave that Tee out. This diagram like the stock setup is depended on not boosting ... HOW TO RUN VACUUM LINES FOR WASTEGATE & BLOW OFF VALVEPayPal Donate https://paypal.me/duwop77?locale.x=en_UST-Shirts-https://teespring.com/stores/duwop77-3In... OPERATION: The Evolution Wastegate controls turbocharger boost by bypassing the turbine inlet gas flow in response to the actuator spring load and/or boost level control signal. The actuator section is fitted with sensing ports on both sides of the diaphragm, allowing precise control of valve motion, and use of any optional external
External Wastegate. The next type of wastegate is an external wastegate. External wastegates are completely separate from the turbine housing. In fact, they are a stand-alone part that can be added to any type of turbocharger system. The gates themselves have a few moving parts and are a pretty basic assembly.
I am runnung an external gate on my 2.2 build up, and I am a little confused about the correct installaton of my vac. lines.
Generally, dual solenoid EBC run boost to the top port to keep it fully closed, and suddenly shift the pressure to the side port to suddenly open the wastegate for the shortest possible spool time. I think it's why a lot of people think that external gates give better response.

You simply connect a vacuum hose from the turbo's compressor housing straight to the wastegate, and leave the boost controller disconnected. This allows the turbo to spool up and boost to the wastegate's spring pressure rate, and checking your boost gauge in a 4th gear run will show the max boost; it should be 15 psi.

I've got a Tial 38mm wastegate on my setup. I have noticed that when I am boosting I get somewhat "spikey" boost, it never really stays consistent. I believe it's due to the previous owner hooking up the wastegate incorrectly. Currently the side port is hooked to a vacuum line going to the IM, with a manual boost controller on that same line.
